Princess Diana – Stubborn or Compassionate?

By Princy James – September 3rd, 2010

dian2int

“She was down to earth, charming and intelligent, but also stubborn and prone to be over-emotional” – and these are the words ex-British premiere used to describe the late Princess Diana in his memoirs ‘A Journey’.

Blair went on to say that public figures can be manipulative, and that they both were so in their own ways – good at grasping the feelings of others and instinctively playing on them. Ain’t it strange when the verdict comes from the same man who described Diana as the ‘People’s Princess’ even though he described her as stubborn while mentioning her affair with Dodi Fayed?

Diana’s life is a story that has been told and re-told a hundred times. Enough has been said; still, it will never be enough to satiate the curiosity of the world. Diana finishing 4th in the most searched celebs’ list of the decade behind Britney, Osama Bin Laden and David Beckham proves this.

She was introduced to the world with her so-called fairytale marriage with Prince Charles in 1981. The shy young lady’s beauty and charm made her an instant darling to the world with her hairstyle and fashion becoming the topic everyone wanted to talk about, copied by millions around the globe as they witnessed her life through photographs.

But that was just one side of her life’s kaleidoscope, and soon, the murkier side was revealed through Andrew Morton’s biography ‘Diana – Her True Story’.

Though people sympathized with her broken marriage, that sympathy was overwhelmed by a sense of curiosity and the media too learned to tap this craze. Her plight earned her the pity of the world, but she was crucified by the same people over her alleged affairs. Lady Di’s divorce from Prince Charles was more like a breather for a person like her who had been suffocating inside the ‘royal confinement’.

When she decided to make use of her fame for noble causes, she drew admiration and criticism alike. While some hailed her as the compassionate princess, there were a few who actually saw this as a publicity gimmick.

A week after her death, Mother Teresa also passed away, and I remember reading an article about how idiotic it was for people to compare them both. Quite true; how could you compare a member of the royal family who lived in riches with a missionary who had given up her life for the service of the poor?

For Mother Teresa, it was a vocation, and for Diana, it was a choice – a choice to take the ‘road less travelled’, a choice that earned her accolades for using her stature for the good of mankind.

Can a face lie or the eyes cheat? May be, but not forever. Looking at Diana’s photos, I can see genuine compassion in her eyes that helped the princess see a world beyond her fairytale-like existence.

Over-emotional? Yes she was, for how else could she care deeply about the anti-landmine campaign, earning her no goodwill from political bigwigs? And yes, she was stubborn enough to do whatever she believed was right. But it was the same attitude of hers that helped ease the pain of many lives.

She was the one who helped pass a bill banning the usage of anti-personnel landmines and the famous ‘Ottawa Treaty’ came to effect after her death. The then British Foreign Secretary quoted her saying:

“All Honourable Members will be aware from their postbags of the immense contribution made by Diana, Princess of Wales to bringing home to many of our constituents the human costs of landmines. The best way in which to record our appreciation of her work, and the work of NGOs that have campaigned against landmines, is to pass the Bill, and to pave the way towards a global ban on landmines.”

And if she hadn’t been killed in that fatal crash, something tells me she would have done more for the world. Even after 13 years, there has been no substantial evidence to prove that Diana’s accident was a conspiracy though her involvement in political matters made her become a speck in the eyes of many. A movie - The Murder of Princess Diana – by John Strickland was released in 2007 sewing together the speculations surrounding her death.

May be it was the same stubbornness and empathetic nature that cut short her life or maybe it was just a play of destiny – whatever it was, it was a risk that Diana knowingly chose, and her achievements in her young life stand testament to that.

Lady Di, England’s Rose

By Khristina – July 1st, 2010

There is a good reason why we always remember Lady Diana, especially on her birthday. We remember her for her grace, poise, beauty, innocence and, of course her benevolence. England’s most beloved queen-in-the-making (before her marriage to Prince Charles ended in divorce) would have turned 49 today.

According to Wikipedia:

Posthumously, as in life, she is most popularly referred to as “Princess Diana”, a title she never held. Still, she is sometimes referred to (according to the tradition of using maiden names after death) in the media as “Lady Diana Spencer”, or simply as “Lady Di”. After Tony Blair’s famous speech she is also often referred to as the People’s Princess.

However you remember her, it’s a fact that Diana’s life was as tragic and controversial as her untimely death. The ill-fated car crash in a tunnel in Paris killed her instantly, along with her companion Dodi Al-Fayed and driver Henri Paul on 31 August 1997.

But we’re not talking about that; today, we celebrate Lady Diana’s life, her beauty, her generosity and compassion. Take a look at some glimpses from her life:

Parker-Bowles allegedly encouraged Charles to marry Diana and took Diana under her wing, but was Prince Charles’ mistress during his marriage. (Photo by Express Newspapers/Archive Photos)

Spike Milligan

Spike Milligan
Spike Milligan (1918 - 2002)
Spike Milligan

The Soldiers at Lauro by Spike Milligan
Young are our dead
Like babies they lie
The wombs they blest once
Not healed dry
And yet - too soon
Into each space
A cold earth falls
On colder face.
Quite still they lie
These fresh-cut reeds
Clutched in earth
Like winter seeds
But they will not bloom
When called by spring
To burst with leaf
And blossoming
They sleep on
In silent dust
As crosses rot
And helmets rust.

"Spike" Milligan was born in Ahmednagar, India, on 16 April 1918 to an Irish-born officer in the British Army and his wife.

Though he lived most of his life in England and served in the British Army, he was declared stateless in 1960, and took Irish citizenship.

He suffered from bipolar disorder for most of his life, having at least ten mental breakdowns. He was a strident campaigner on environmental matters, particularly arguing against unnecessary noise. He served in the Royal Artillery in World War II in North Africa and also Italy, where he was hospitalized for shell shock.
During most of the 1930s and early 1940s he performed as a jazz trumpeter but even then he did comedy sketches. After his hospitalisation he played guitar with a jazz/comedy group called The Bill Hall Trio, at first in concert parties for the troops and, after the war, for a short time on stage. While he was with the Central Pool of Artists (a group, in his own words, "of bomb-happy squaddies") he began to write parodies of their mainstream plays, that displayed many of the key elements of what would become The Goon Show with Peter Sellers and Michael Bentine.

Spike Milligan in his younger days
He was the primary author of The Goon Show scripts (though many were written jointly with Eric Sykes) as well as a star performer, and is considered the father of modern British comedy, having inspired countless writers and performers with his work on The Goon Show and his own Q series, including Monty Python's Flying Circus. Writing a show a week affected his health greatly and caused him to have a series of nervous breakdowns. On one occasion, Peter Sellers had to lock his door against a knife-wielding Milligan; on another, Sellers and Harry Secombe broke into Milligan's dressing room, fearing he was suicidal. Eventually lithium was found to be the most effective treatment.

He also had a number of acting parts in theatre, film and television series; one of his last screen appearances was in the BBC dramatisation of Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast, and he was (almost inevitably) noted as an ad-libber. One of Spike's most famous ad-lib incidents occurred during a visit to Australia in the late 1960s. He was interviewed live-to-air and remained in the studio for the news broadcast that followed (read by Rod McNeil) during which Milligan constantly interjected, adding his own name to news items. As a result, he was banned from making any further live appearances on the ABC. The ABC also changed its national policy so that talent had to leave the studio after interviews were complete. A tape of the bulletin survives and has been included in an ABC Radio audio compilation, also on the BBC tribute CD, Vivat Milligan.

Milligan also wrote nonsense verse for children, the best of which is comparable with that of Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear, and (while depressed) serious poetry. He also wrote a very successful series of war memoirs, including Adolf Hitler: My Part in his Downfall (1971) and Rommel? Gunner Who? A Confrontation in the Desert (1976). He also wrote comedy songs, including Purple Aeroplane, which was a parody of The Beatles' song, Yellow Submarine.

After their retirement, Milligan's parents and his younger brother Desmond moved to Australia. His mother lived the rest of her life in the coastal village of Woy Woy on the New South Wales Central Coast, just north of Sydney; as a result, Spike became a regular visitor to Australia and made a number of radio and TV programmes there.

From the 1960s onwards Milligan was a regular correspondent with Robert Graves. Milligan's letters to Graves usually addressed a question to do with classical studies. The letters form part of Graves' bequest to St. John's College, Oxford.

In 1972, Milligan caused controversy by liberating a live shark from an art exhibition at the Hayward Gallery. In 1996, he successfully campaigned for the restoration of London's Elfin Oak.

The Prince of Wales was a noted fan, and Milligan caused a stir by calling him a "little grovelling bastard" on television in 1994. He later faxed the prince, saying "I suppose a knighthood is out of the question?". A knighthood (honorary because of his Irish citizenship) was finally awarded in 2000.

Milligan had three children with his first wife June Marlow: Laura, Seán and Síle. He had one daughter with his second wife Patricia Milligan: the actress Jane Milligan. He had no children with his third (and last) wife Shelagh Sinclair. The four children have recently collaborated with documentary makers on a new multi-platform program called I Told You I Was Ill: The Life and Legacy of Spike Milligan (2005) .

Even late in life, Milligan's black humour had not deserted him. After the death of friend Harry Secombe from cancer, he said, "I'm glad he died before me, because I didn't want him to sing at my funeral". A recording of Secombe singing was played at Milligan's memorial service. In a BBC poll in August 1999, Spike Milligan was voted the "funniest person of the last 1000 years".

He died from liver disease, at the age of 83, on February 27, 2002, at his home in Rye, East Sussex.

The film of Puckoon, starring his daughter, the actress Jane Milligan, was released after his death.

The Holden Road plaque
Milligan lived for several years in Holden Road, Woodside Park and at The Crescent, Barnet, and was a strong supporter of the Finchley Society. His old house in Woodside Park is now demolished, but there is a blue plaque in his memory on the new house on the site. The Finchley Society is trying to get a statue of him erected in Finchley. There is also a campaign to erect a statue in Lewisham, where he grew up after coming to the UK from India in the 1930s.

In accordance with his last wishes, his headstone bears the words "I told you I was ill." As his local church refused to allow these words on a headstone in its cemetery, a compromise was reached with the Irish language translation, "Dúirt mé leat go raibh mé breoite."

In a 2005 poll to find The Comedian's Comedian, he was voted amongst the top 50 comedy acts ever by fellow comedians and comedy insiders.

Fri Sep 3, 2010 7:42pm EDT
WELLINGTON (Reuters) - A major earthquake hit New Zealand's second biggest city Christchurch early on Saturday, bringing down power lines, ripping up roads and wrecking building facades, but authorities reported no deaths.
Authorities declared a formal civil defense state of emergency to coordinate recovery operations in the city, which has a population of about 350,000 people, after facades collapsed into streets, crushing cars and blocking roads.
Two men suffered serious injuries and police closed off the central business district.
The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.1 and a depth of 10 kms (6 miles), hitting the South Island city and a large surrounding area of farms at around 4.35 a.m. local time (12:35 p.m. EDT Friday).
"There's a lot of damage that I've been able to observe in the central city area, mainly of the old brick and masonry buildings, a number of those have got walls that have fallen into the street," Christchurch mayor Bob Parker told Radio New Zealand.
The city's hospital said two men had been admitted with serious injuries, one hit by a falling chimney and the other cut by glass. It had also treated a few other people with broken bones, cuts and grazes.
Police said there were several instances of looting, which had been quickly contained. In the suburbs many houses had broken windows, toppled chimneys, cracked walls and items thrown off shelves.
Power was out over a large area of the city and surrounding region as circuit breakers were tripped at substations, but was being progressively restored after safety checks.
Water and sewage services were also disrupted, and there were reports of subsidence in some roads.
RURAL EPICENTRE
Officials were checking how severe the damage was in rural areas, closer to the epicenter, west of the city.
Ray O'Donnell, owner of a hotel in Darfield, a small farming community around 20 kms (12 miles) west of Christchurch, said large cracks had appeared in rural roads near the epicenter.
GNS Science, the New Zealand government seismological agency, revised its reading of the quake to magnitude 7.1 from an original 7.4. The U.S. Geological Survey initially reported it at 7.4 but later revised its figure to 7.0.
The city's airport was shut as the runway and facilities were checked, and the railway network and bridges throughout the region were also being checked for damage.
The quake was felt as a long rolling motion lasting up to 40 seconds. The area was continuing to feel aftershocks as strong as magnitude 5.2.
"It was a real rocker, and (we're) still getting aftershocks. (It) felt like the house was flying on a whirlwind," Tessa Hay, who lives around 12 km north of the city, told Reuters.
Because the quake occurred inland there was no danger of a tsunami. "No destructive widespread tsunami threat exists based on historical earthquake and tsunami data," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
New Zealand scientists record around 14,000 earthquakes a year, of which around 20 top magnitude 5.0.
The last fatal earthquake in the geologically active country, caught between the Pacific and Indo-Australian tectonic plates, was in 1968 when an earthquake measuring 7.1 killed three people on the South Island's West Coast.

The city's hospital said two men had been admitted with serious injuries, one hit by a falling chimney and the other cut by glass. It had also treated a few other people with broken bones, cuts and grazes.
"I think we've been extremely lucky as a nation that there's been no fatalities; we're blessed actually," Civil Defence Minister John Carter told reporters, adding that he expected the cost to the economy would be substantial.
Prime Minister John Key, who has a sister living in the city, was heading to the city with senior government officials.
"I think it is going to take quite some time before we know how big the bill is," Key told Television NZ.
Christchurch city and the neighbouring small towns bore the full force of the quake, which did considerable damage to infrastructure.
"The damage is immense, it's something that has affected every family, every household...the hit on our infrastructure, the pipes that deliver the water, the waste water, the bridges, the power supplies...has been very significant," Christchurch mayor Bob Parker told reporters.
Police said there were minor instances of looting, which had been quickly contained. In the suburbs many houses had broken windows, toppled chimneys, cracked walls and items thrown off shelves, with some streets and footpaths subsiding.
Power was out over a large area of the city and surrounding region, but was being progressively restored after safety checks.
Authorities were preparing to bring in water in large tankers because pumping stations were out of action and pipes broken.
RURAL EPICENTRE
The small farming community of Darfield, around 20 kms (12 miles) west of Christchurch, was near the quake's epicentre.
The principal of the primary school there said the quake, which threw him out of bed, was terrifying.
"Our china cabinet has crashed, pictures are off the wall, anything high up has come down and the cat has gone. He is probably still heading south," Markham McCullen told the NZ Press Association.
GNS Science, the New Zealand government seismological agency, revised the quake's magnitude to 7.1 from an original 7.4. The U.S. Geological Survey initially reported it at 7.4 but later revised its figure to 7.0.
Christchurch airport, which was shut earlier, has been reopened and is operational, while the railway network and bridges throughout the region were also being checked for damage.
Canterbury University, which has about 22,000 students, said there has been no material structural damage on its campus, but the university will be closed until Sept 13 for health and safety assessment.
The quake was felt as a long rolling motion lasting up to 40 seconds. The area was continuing to feel aftershocks as strong as magnitude 5.3.
The quake was among the 10 strongest recorded in New Zealand, which sits between the Pacific and Indo-Australian tectonic plates, and records around 14,000 earthquakes a year, of which around 20 top magnitude 5.0.
The last fatal quake was in 1968 when an earthquake measuring 7.1 killed three people on the South Island's West Coast.

'God not needed to create the Universe'

'God not needed to create the Universe'

LONDON (Reuters) – God did not create the universe and the "Big Bang" was an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics, the eminent British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking argues in a new book.

In "The Grand Design," co-authored with U.S. physicist Leonard Mlodinow, Hawking says a new series of theories made a creator of the universe redundant, according to the Times newspaper which published extracts on Thursday.

"Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist," Hawking writes.

"It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going."

Hawking, 68, who won global recognition with his 1988 book "A Brief History of Time," an account of the origins of the universe, is renowned for his work on black holes, cosmology and quantum gravity.

Since 1974, the scientist has worked on marrying the two cornerstones of modern physics -- Albert Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, which concerns gravity and large-scale phenomena, and quantum theory, which covers subatomic particles.

His latest comments suggest he has broken away from previous views he has expressed on religion. Previously, he wrote that the laws of physics meant it was simply not necessary to believe that God had intervened in the Big Bang.

He wrote in A Brief History ... "If we discover a complete theory, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason -- for then we should know the mind of God."

In his latest book, he said the 1992 discovery of a planet orbiting another star other than the Sun helped deconstruct the view of the father of physics Isaac Newton that the universe could not have arisen out of chaos but was created by God.

"That makes the coincidences of our planetary conditions -- the single Sun, the lucky combination of Earth-Sun distance and solar mass, far less remarkable, and far less compelling evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings," he writes.

Hawking, who is only able to speak through a computer-generated voice synthesizer, has a neuro muscular dystrophy that has progressed over the years and left him almost completely paralyzed.

He began suffering the disease in his early 20s but went on to establish himself as one of the world's leading scientific authorities, and has also made guest appearances in "Star Trek" and the cartoons "Futurama" and "The Simpsons."

Last year he announced he was stepping down as Cambridge University's Lucasian Professor of Mathematics, a position once held by Newton and one he had held since 1979.

"The Grand Design" is due to go on sale next week.

LONDON -- Did creation need a creator?

British physicist and mathematician Stephen Hawking says no, arguing in his new book that there need not be a God behind the creation of the universe.

The concept is explored in "The Grand Design," excerpts of which were printed in the British newspaper The Times on Thursday. The book, written with fellow physicist Leonard Mlodinow, is scheduled to be published by Bantam Press on Sept. 9.

"The Grand Design," which the publishers call Hawking's first major work in nearly a decade, challenges Isaac Newton's theory God must have been involved in creation because our solar system couldn't have come out of chaos simply through nature.

But Hawking says it isn't that simple. To understand the universe, it's necessary to know both how and why it behaves the way it does, calling the pursuit "the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything."

Hawking, who is renowned for his work on black holes, said the 1992 discovery of another planet orbiting a star other than the sun makes "the coincidences of our planetary conditions ... far less remarkable and far less compelling as evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings."

In his best-selling 1988 book "A Brief History of Time," Hawking appeared to accept the possibility of a creator, saying the discovery of a complete theory would "be the ultimate triumph of human reason -- for then we should know the mind of God."

But "The Grand Design" seems to step away from that, saying physics can explain things without the need for a "benevolent creator who made the Universe for our benefit."

"Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing," the excerpt says. "Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist. It is not necessary to invoke God to ... set the Universe going."

Hawking retired last year as the Lucasian Chair of Mathematics at Cambridge University after 30 years in the position. The position was once held by Newton.

But Hawking says it isn't that simple. To understand the universe, it's necessary to know both how and why it behaves the way it does, calling the pursuit "the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything".

"We shall attempt to answer it in this book," he wrote. "Unlike the answer given in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, ours won't be simply '42.'"

The number 42 is the deliberately absurd answer to the "Ultimate Question" chosen by sci-fi author Douglas Adams.

Hawking, who is renowned for his work on black holes, said the 1992 discovery of another planet orbiting a star other than the sun makes "the coincidences of our planetary conditions ... far less remarkable and far less compelling as evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings".

Why I write

Save poor class of this planet from illegal usurers and suicide

Save poor class of this planet from illegal usurers and suicide
This article is written for people use Bengali language .

The topic is " Indian Poor class and Micro finance".
Self help group, Grameen Bank (GB) ,Community based financial systems (CBFS) , NGOs in micro-finance whatever their name may be they should change their policy for Poverty Alleviation. otherwise Poor will remain as poor at the mercy of suicide.

The article, in three parts, this is third part.
Second part : http://albertashokpaintings.blogspot.com/2010/08/quicksand-of-debt.html
First part : http://albertashokpaintings.blogspot.com/2010/07/micro-finance-and-indian-poor-class.html

I request people working for 'Demand and Dignity' a campaign launched by Amnesty International should read these three parts. Indian people -- those are in poor class and lower middle class are being trapped and ruined by the personal loan taken from local usurers with interest ranging 10% to 60%
monthly, in market place, poor vegetable vendors take loans amounting Rs. 100/ to Rs. 500/ at 10% interest rate per day.

Anyway, stop these private practices and give poor and weak people a constitutional legal support to fight these unlawful acts /cases and make poor people's lives safe and secured.

INDIA'S Government urged internet giant Google to correct its depiction of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as part of Pakistan.
Google Insights for Search, which provides a visual representation of search volume patterns across specific regions, showed the disputed region as Pakistan, The Times of India reported.
Kashmir, that shares borders with India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and China, is a disputed territory among the three countries. Pakistan controls the northwest portion, India controls the central and southern portion and Ladakh, and China controls the northeastern portion.
"Any wrongful depiction of Indian map and its boundaries is liable for action under the India Information Technology Act. Google has been asked to immediately correct this inaccuracy," Minister of state for telecom and IT Sachin Pilot told the media outlet.

The men who fought for our freedom

The men who fought for our freedom

The men who fought for our freedom
The Indian freedom was a long struggle which claimed thousands of lives and countless sacrifices. Many of these sacrifices went unnoticed but some of them found their way into history books and are even remembered today with great pride and honour.

The date August 15 brings a sense of patriotism to all Indians whether in India or abroad and makes the people behind our independence even more special. Here's a look at some of those great personalities because of whom we stand on the brink of social, political and economical greatness.

The men who fought for our freedom
Mahatma Gandhi

The father of the nation who was also given the title ‘Mahatma' gave the world a perspective which supported humanity and not tyranny. His non violent measures which seemed ineffective in the tense scenario proved to be a method which not only brought the British Raj under pressure but also gathered worldwide support for India.

His efforts to abolish untouchability, remove poverty and Swaraj (self-rule) guided India towards a state of unity and tolerance. With non cooperation movement, Salt Satyagraha and Quit India Movement he employed non-cooperation, non-violence and peaceful resistance as his "weapons" in the struggle against the British Raj.

The men who fought for our freedom
Rani Lakshmibai

Rani Lakshmibai commonly known as ‘Jhansi ki Rani' was an iconic figure in the first freedom struggle of India in 1857. After the East India Company, under the leadership of Lord Dalhousie decided to apply the Doctrine of Lapse to acquire Jhansi, the queen took the responsibility of leading her army to oppose the British oppression.

One of the first major initiatives to oppose the East India Company, Rani Lakshmibai became a symbol of courage, women empowerment and the patriotism. She died at the hands of the British but her sacrifice did not go waste as it set the tone for many future leaders.

The men who fought for our freedom
Lal Bal Pal

The trio of Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal advocated the Swadeshi movement which spread the message of self-reliance. Their efforts included boycotting foreign goods, strikes and protesting the partition of Bengal to unite the people with the ultimate motive of overthrowing the British Raj.

Lala Lajpat Rai who led a number of demonstrations against the British succumbed to injuries after being ‘Lathi charged' in his protest against the Simon Commission. Bhagat Singh, who was an eyewitness to this event, claimed that it was this act that triggered the sense of revenge in him.

The men who fought for our freedom
Bhagat Singh

Bhagat Singh is considered to be one of the most influential extremists in the freedom struggle of India. He believed in raising his voice to make the British hear it and in an attempt to do so, he threw a bomb in the Central Legislative Assembly. After the bombing, Bhagat Singh gave himself up to the police.

With his extremist approach Bhagat Singh has been an iconic figure amongst the Indian youth even today.

The men who fought for our freedom
Subhash Chandra Bose

Considered to be one of the greatest brains involved in India's freedom struggle Subhash Chandra Bose or Netaji as he was affectionately called was a key figure in India's freedom struggle. He formed the Indian National Army with the involvement of Indians in other parts of Asia to attack the British forces in India.

He sought alliances around the world with countries such as USSR, Japan and Germany to strengthen his force against the British Raj in India. His famous motto "Give me blood and I will give you freedom", truly defined the spirit of Subhash Chandra Bose.

The men who fought for our freedom
Sardar Vallabhai Patel

An iconic leader in the Indian National Congress and the first deputy Prime Minister of India, Sardar Vallabhai Patel was a key member in the Quit India Movement. Also known as the ‘iron man of India', Sardar Vallabhai Patel did the herculean task of uniting hundreds of princely states of India to form the Republic of India that we know today.

The men who fought for our freedom
Other influential leaders

Apart from these names there were many others who made immense contributions towards the freedom of India. Freedom fighters like Chandrasekhar Azad, Bagha Jatin, Khudiram Bose, Madan Lal Dhingra, Udham Singh, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Veer Savarkar and Mangal Pandey who made imperative contributions will always remain in Indian hearts as a source of inspiration, spirit and patriotism. The people not only wrote Indian history but also paved a path for the success that we all enjoy today

Mankind must abandon Earth or face extinction: Hawking

London: The human race will become extinct unless it leaves Earth and colonises space within the next two centuries, according to Prof Stephen Hawking, the world's most famous astrophysicist.

In an interview with the portal 'Big Think', professor Hawking has said he's an "optimist" but the next few hundred years had to be negotiated carefully if the human race is to survive.

He said, "I see great danger for the human race. There have been a number of times in the past when survival has been a question of touch and go. The Cuban missile crisis in 1963 is one of these. The frequency of such occasions is likely to increase in the future. We shall need great care and judgment to negotiate them all successfully. But I am an optimist. If we can avoid disaster for the next two centuries our species should be safe as we spread into space."

Professor Hawking has warned that mankind was entering "an increasingly dangerous period of our history".
"Our population and use of the finite resources of planet Earth and growing exponentially along without technical ability to change the environment for good and ill. But our genetic code carries selfish and aggressive instincts that were a survival advantage in the past. It will be difficult enough to avoid disaster in the next 100 years let alone the next thousand or a million. Our only chance of long term survival is not to remain on Earth but to spread into space.

"We have made remarkable progress in the last 100 years but if we want to continue beyond the next 100 years our future is in space," the 'Daily Mail' quoted him as telling the portal.

This is a real story happened in 2008 to 2010, in Kolkata, Dumdum, under municipal area. Name of character is changed, due to unwanted problem and disquiet. A simple woman lost all her life and hope and disappeared in dark.

India has seen so many deaths being trapped in debt. This is main concern.
